Jai Shri Ram is chanted by the BJP as they welcome Mamata to the Vande Bharat Express ceremony.

The Vande Bharat Express, which uses video conferencing to connect Howrah and New Jalpaiguri, was kicked off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. The Joka-Taratala Stretch of the Joka-Esplanade Metro Project was also launched by the prime minister (Purple Line). He also dedicated four railway projects to the country: the third line between Boinchi and Shaktigarh; the fourth line between Dankuni and Chandanpur; the double line between Nimtita and New Farakka; and the doubling project between Ambari Falakata and New Maynaguri and Gumanihat. The New Jalpaiguri Railway Station’s renovation was also officially started by the Prime Minister by laying the first brick.

According to reports, when the Bengal CM arrived, BJP supporters greeted her by shouting “Jai Shri Ram.” Additionally present at the event, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw asked the saffron party officials to remain calm.

Vaishnaw begged them to stop, but the raucous sloganeering persisted. Mamata Banerjee, who appeared obviously irate with the audience and refused to sit on the dais, was persuaded by the Union minister.

The Prime Minister addressed the crowd and apologised for not being present in person since, in his opinion, today should be a day of homage to Bengal because the history of the freedom movement is ingrained in every cell of Bengal. The Prime Minister remarked, “Land from whence the call of Vande Matram emanated, saw the flagging off of Vande Bharat today. The Indian Prime Minister recalled that on December 30, 1943, in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose raised the Tricolor and started the process of India’s freedom. The Prime Minister announced that he had the chance to travel to the Andaman Islands to name an island in honour of Netaji on the occasion of this historic day’s 75th anniversary. The train that is being launched off today from Howrah to New Jalpaiguri is one of the 475 Vande Bharat trains that India decided to launch during the ceremonies of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The Prime Minister mentioned the numerous projects whose foundation stones are being set and were launched today, noting that the government will invest almost 5000 crores to complete these projects.

According to sources in the media, Mamata Banerjee praised PM Modi in her speech for giving West Bengal this opportunity and expressed her gratitude for showing up virtually despite his significant loss today.

“I want to express our gratitude on behalf of the people of West Bengal for providing us this chance. You have a sad day today. Your mother also refers to our mother. God grant you the courage to carry on with your work. Please rest a bit, “the CM of Bengal said.

The Vande Bharat Express, which runs between Howrah and New Jalpaiguri, as well as a number of other projects totaling Rs 7,800 crore in the state, were all set to be officially launched by PM Modi.
